All too often, when identifying a suitable and leading AI vendor, the temptation is to test providers by comparing them quantitively, based on data that can be presented by all — even the weakest — models. There is a thought that if they can all assess it, then it must be the most rounded picture.

However, these in-house data scientists are forgetting about the additional quantitative output that can only be calculated by a more advanced model — not by all. This qualitative nuance and argument is therefore lost as vital context to face value data is overlooked and the retailer misses out on a more advanced innovation to guide them forward.
