GateHouse and Cargobull Telematics Realize Joint Just-in-Sequence Automotive Project

The project brings together best-in-practice capabilities and technologies of industry leaders

In one of the most ambitious projects yet seen in automotive manufacturing, GateHouse Logistics, a telematics data stream company and Schmitz Cargobull Telematics, trailer telematics specialist, have entered into joint agreement with Magna International to set up a Long Distance Just in Sequence (LD-JIS) tracking solution for new vehicle programs at Magna’s Steyr facility in Graz, Austria.

The cooperation brings together the manufacturing capabilities and technologies of three leaders in their respective fields and could become a blueprint for automotive industry to harness the ingenuity of LD-JIS.

As cars become more customized, LD-JIS-based production enables carmakers to have the right parts at precisely the right time. They need the right GPS, mirrors, doors, engines, whatever delivered at a precise moment in the production chain and sitting on large buffer inventories to ensure that is no longer an option.

Over 300 trucks with trailers fitted with Schmitz Cargobull Telematics systems will be used in this LD-JIS project. The ghTrack data unifying technology of GateHouse Logistics will be used to give Magna a single tower view of all parts in transit to its factory in Graz, Austria. GateHouse’s unified data stream technology will be integrated into the Magna Steyr enterprise planning system. The project will be fully operational by Spring 2017.

Executive comments
Karl-Heinz Neu, Managing Director of Schmitz Cargobull Telematics, adds: “Schmitz Cargobull Telematics has been leading the trailer telematics market for the past decade and this LD-JIS project with such key industry players as Magna and Gatehouse enables all three companies to bring unprecedented efficiencies to such an important sector of business activity. And this will be a representative project for the JIS”

“All industries today need more data transparency in the supply chain and the success of this LD-JIS project depends entirely upon Magna having total control and visibility over what parts are in transit and when they will arrive,” says Jesper Bennike, CEO, GateHouse Logistics. “GateHouse’s ghTrack technology will give their planners one efficient data stream of parts in transit to the factory and will help them to work faster and better.”
